Maya Moughanni obtained her LL.B in 2001 and her Post Graduate Degree- Advanced Studies Diploma (DEA) in Private Law in 2003 from La Sagesse University, Lebanon. She holds an MBA, from ESA (École Supérieure des Affaires) and ESCP, Europe (2008). Maya attended the Program of Negotiating and Drafting International Commercial Contracts in 2014 at Girton College, University of Cambridge, England. She is a member of the Beirut Bar Association since 2003.
Ms. Moughanni career started as a legal counsel for a large financial institution focused on structured finance and capital markets related services particularly securitization and fund-management. She gained an extensive working experience in negotiating, incorporating and drafting transactional documents for financial institutions and following up on compliance with competent ministries, regulatory authorities and central banks, and working on related financial activities such as securitization.
Ms. Moughanni has also extensively worked on legal due diligence, corporate and commercial contracts such as licensing, franchising, distribution, shareholders’ agreements, share purchase agreements, construction agreements, banking, securities. She advises on corporate structures in the Middle East region, including choosing jurisdiction of incorporation, forms of incorporations and acquisitions.
Ms. Moughanni’s areas of practice include insurance, cooperative insurance, Takaful and corporate-law. Her most recent transactions include advising on the sale of a large equity stake in a local finance company and the acquisition by a multinational insurance group of a regional insurance company.
Ms. Moughanni currently acts for a local insurance company, providing legal and regulatory advice in connection with its operations and contractual obligations.
